Willem The Silent 2017
Award Winner
Gilbert & Gaillard International Competition
Gold Medal – 2018 FR
Thierry Ferlay has won more gold medals than any other winemaker in France’s Rhône Valley, and crafts many of our best-selling reds. For this NEW blockbuster, he’s teamed up with the iconic Philippe Cambie, who’s earned 15 perfect 100-point scores from top critic Robert Parker. As you’d expect, the result is seriously impressive ...
The dynamic duo headed to the Rhône’s little-known Principauté d’Orange district. Located next door the storied Châteauneuf-du-Pape region and famous names like $500-a-bottle Beaucastel, Principauté d’Orange’s vineyards benefit from the same ideal growing conditions and contain heat-trapping galet roules (‘pudding stones’), which help grapes ripen to perfection. Yet because the region remains something of an insider’s secret, there are still great values to be found – and Thierry and Philippe took full advantage.
Named after a stoic medieval Prince of Orange, Willem the Silent has debuted to a Gilbert & Gaillard gold medal. A classic Grenache blend, it brims with intense cherry, black currant, and spicy pepper aromas and flavors. With a sumptuous, full-bodied palate, it’s a red befitting a royal feast – serve with roasted game meats, hearty stews, and more.
