Tri-Tip Malbec 2014
Malbec’s been seriously popular with steak lovers for years, thanks to its typically bold fruit, hints of spicy chocolate, and velvety tannins.
It’s normally a star in Argentina, but when our California expert, Clare Tooley, tasted this Lodi-grown version at a local winery (run by a highly acclaimed family who’ve been farming the land for 150 years!), she knew she’d found something special.
On the menu at Clare’s house that night? Tri-tip steak, flame-grilled with her husband’s secret-recipe rub. The match was so delicious, she went back to the winery the next day and sealed the tasty deal – and also convinced them to name the wine after that fantastic cut of beef. Here’s Clare on what you can expect in the glass:
“It’s just such a pretty wine. The nose is full-on crushed forest strawberry with hints of ripe exotic fruits – fabulously expressive! The palate is balanced and oh-so luscious, with layer after layer of red and black berries and creamy chocolate.”
