Portugal’s been called “the most exciting wine place on the planet” by Wine Spectator. And there are fewer things more thrilling than discovering your vineyards are strewn with dinosaur fossils – as the team at the historic Casa Santos Lima discovered during a recent renovation.
The ‘stones and bones’ they found were the inspiration for this seriously succulent red, featuring native star Touriga Nacional, plus Tinta Roriz, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet – all of which thrive in Lisboa, a region that’s been enjoying a surge in quality, thanks to talented and ambitious winemakers like Diogo Sepúlveda.
Inspired by the giants that roamed this land millions of years ago, Diogo set out to make a red of real power – and he’s succeeded deliciously – for the second vintage in a row, Stones and Bones was awarded a gold medal at Portugal Wine Trophy and was named a 90-Point Best Buy by Wine Enthusiast, whose editors raved: “This is a bold wine, full of spice and rich tannins. With blackberry flavors, it is concentrated, dense and certainly ripe.”
