Sol de Valencia Gewürztraminer 2019

When something is both delicious and super rare, it’s even more fun to drink. When it’s a fantastic value to boot? Well, we call that the total package.

Introducing our first-ever Spanish Gewürztraminer, from a very special patch of vines in Valencia’s southeast corner. It was born at Bodegas La Viña, named Best Producer in Spain at Mundus Vini’s 2020 summer tasting (it’s one of the most important wine competitions in the world, so no small shakes!). Their gently sloping vineyards reach nearly 2,000 feet above sea level, so they benefit from both warm sun and cooling sea breezes from the nearby Mediterranean.

Only one small vineyard at Bodegas La Viña is planted with Gewürztraminer – an experiment begun by head winemaker Marta Martinez. You see, in Spain, Gewürtz is fairly uncommon; and in the east, it’s exceptionally rare. But there was something about the dry microclimate Marta encountered in this vineyard that gave her a hunch the Alsatian variety would really thrive there. And she was right.

Dry, but fruit forward and totally refreshing, this is a fantastic white to pair with mildly spicy Asian fare or your favorite soft cheese.
