Concours des Vins du Val de Loire - Ligers
90 Points – 2018 GB

Welcome to Patagonia, Argentina’s extreme southern frontier. Here, icy-cold Antarctic winds produce uniquely tight clusters of tiny, thick-skinned grapes – and reds that are big on flavor, deep color and intense freshness.

The Schroeder family have braved the elements down here since 1927, winning regular gold medals and 90+ point scores (International Wine Challenge judges called the previous release a “fabulous cooler climate Malbec!” and gave it a gold). You’re in for more of the delicious same with their velvety-rich 2017, which has its own top gold medal from the prestigious China Wine & Spirits Awards.

In a region made up of small, quality-focused wineries, the Schroeders (clearly!) stand out for the distinctiveness and consistently first-rate quality of their handiwork. Taste for yourself in their signature, oak-aged Malbec.

It positively brims with black fruit complexity, hints of dark chocolate, and enticing spice. It will pair perfectly with your favorite steak (Malbec’s classic match), but its trademark freshness also makes for an ideal partner with duck, game meats or lentil-driven vegetarian dishes.
