Lornano Le Macchie Rosato 2016

Luca Maroni
95 Points – 2017 IT

Renowned winemaker Franco Bernabei crafts some of our most popular Italian wines (as well as icons like $100-plus Fontodi Flaccianello). Nicknamed ‘Mr. Sangiovese’ for his deft skill with Tuscany’s star grape, his talents are on full display here – this gorgeous rosato boasts an impressive 95 points from top Italian critic Luca Maroni.

Franco worked his magic at Fattoria di Lornano’s beautifully restored farmhouse in the premium Chianti Classico region (home to Chianti’s finest vineyard sites). It’s run by the Taddei family, who have farmed their land since 1904. After selecting the ripest parcels of Sangiovese from the Taddeis’ famed Le Macchie vineyard, Franco took the grapes back to the cellar and treated the wine to kid-glove care from tank to bottle.

This lovely rosato shows a pretty pale pink in the glass, with vibrant aromas and flavors of ripe red cherry, strawberry, and subtle pepper-spice. Enjoy as a refreshing aperitif, or serve alongside crisp salads, simple pasta dishes, and more.
