96pts Points – 2019 IT

The masterful Franco Bernabei is the talent behind some of Italy’s finest wines – his top bottlings can fetch $100+ (and far more) a bottle. Nicknamed ‘Mr. Sangiovese’ for his deft skill with Tuscany’s star red, he’s made this hugely acclaimed Chianti Riserva exclusively for you. And the best part? You’ll pay way less than $100 a bottle for a wine of serious quality.

Franco worked closely with the Taddei family (vine growers since 1904) to select grapes from their Colli Senesi properties. This hillside sub-region borders Chianti Classico (home to the original and best Chianti vineyards) and is beloved for its beautifully ripe, pure-fruited Sangiovese. Just wait until you taste it. (Top critic Luca Maroni was impressed – he rates it 96 points.)

Aging in top-of-the-line French oak barrels adds savory spice notes to the ripe cherry and violet aromas and flavors. The palate is rich and silky, with a long, refreshing finish. As with most Chianti, this Riserva will be a delicious partner for wood-fired pizza, meaty pastas and more.
