Les Chemins de l’Abbaye Pouilly Fumé 2018
For many Sauvignon Blanc fans, the mere mention of Pouilly-Fumé makes their mouths water. It’s one of France’s finest white wines, and this tiny-batch exclusive should really elicit a thrill: it comes from a very talented winemaker, who doubles as president of the local growers’ syndicate.
Katia Mauroy-Gauliez’s quality-focused approach is known throughout the region, and during the great (albeit scarce) 2017 vintage, Katia’s prime-sited, chalky, hillside vineyards produced a painfully small yield of Sauvignon Blanc grapes – but they were all ripened to juicy, grassy-fresh perfection.
After selecting the finest from the bunch, Katia treated the wine to kid-glove care, from the cellar to your bottle. You’re in for a complex, bone-dry white with vibrant (food-friendly) acidity, balanced with expressive citrus fruit and fresh-cut grass characters. Pair with seared pork chops topped with an herbed goat cheese-butter mixture, fresh seafood, or simple goat cheese and crackers.
