Late Arrival Barbera North Coast 2018
The Barbera grape variety is a major star in northern Italy, producing fresh, flavorful red wines. Long ago, pioneering winemakers brought Barbera to the Golden State. It’s often been overlooked in favor of more popular grapes (like Cabernet and Merlot), but this gorgeous exclusive proves that Barbera thrives in California too.
Late Arrival hails from the premium North Coast, a region that encompasses the counties of Napa, Sonoma, Lake, and Mendocino. The name comes from how the grapes grow: in the warm California sunshine, Barbera enjoys a longer ripening season, which tempers its naturally high acidity and allows the fruit to develop serious concentration. As such, Barbera grapes are often harvested later in the season and are a “late arrival” to the winery. But their intense flavors make them well worth the wait.
Thanks to the warm 2018 vintage, the Barbera grapes for Late Arrival had plenty of time to ripen to perfection. Look forward to vibrant berry aromas, followed by a succulent palate with ripe, dark-fruit flavors and that trademark freshness. This is definitely a wine to enjoy with food – try hearty pastas, cheesy potato dishes, or even rice stews.
