When it comes to France’s southern Rhône Valley, Châteauneuf-du-Pape reigns supreme—“a hedonistic and intellectual treat,” raves critic Robert Parker. If you’re ready for a taste of red-wine royalty, you’ve come to the right place.
Founded in 1924, Le Cellier des Princes is Châteauneuf’s only growers’ co-operative, known for its top-notch, single-estate wines. It’s led by the talented Thierry Ferlay, who has won more gold medals than any other winemaker in the Southern Rhône. For this special cuvée—which boasts 90 points and a gold medal from Gilbert & Gaillard—Thierry selected premium parcels of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, all grown during the fantastic 2019 vintage.
As critic Jeb Dunnuck writes, the 2019s are “rich, powerful wines that have full-bodied, structured profiles...This is a great, at times exceptional, vintage for the Southern Rhône that checks in just behind all-time greats.”
What about La Porte des Princes? Well, Wine Enthusiast judges have called it “a smoky, delicately spiced blend...matured partially in oak. Blackberry and preserved-plum flavors are deeply ripe but distinctly peppery, too, finishing on firm, fine-grained tannins.” We call it a delicious match for roasted meats, hearty casseroles or firm, aged cheeses.
