Koroni Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
Bronze Medal – 2020 US

When Gus Kapiniaris left Koroni (his beautiful home town in Greece) for the New World, he brought with him three things: a passion for winemaking, four generations of expertise and a profound belief in the significance of family. You’ll find all three in Koroni, his gorgeous California Cabernet, which boasts acclaim from two top American competitions.

The Kapiniaris family estate lies in Lodi, “one of the top wine regions in the country,” where winemakers “have quietly started producing some of the state’s best wines” (vinepair.com). The region’s warm sunny days and cool morning fog help extend grapes’ ‘hang time’ on the vine, which allows the fruit to develop ripe, fresh, and concentrated flavors. When it’s time to work his magic in the winery, Gus enlists help from his son Frank, as well as their talented head winemaker, Franck Lambert.

Showing all the fruit-rich charm of the great 2018 vintage, Koroni brims with ripe blackberry, black currant, and subtle licorice flavors. Take inspiration from Koroni (the town, that is) and enjoy your bottle with Greek dishes like kofta kebabs (grilled lamb kebabs) or briam (a baked vegetable casserole).
