Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of France’s classic reds, and the jewel in the southern Rhône’s crown – famed for its rich flavors and age-worthiness. Domaine les Escondudes (a ‘hidden’ estate) lies right next door to famed Vieux Télégraphe. But there was no hiding this gem from huge acclaim. With a steady history of gold-medal wins (2010, 2011, 2012), the 2014 release had some pretty big shoes to fill – but it’s proudly carrying on the tradition, with gold medals from a top local show and prestigious wine guide, Gilbert & Gaillard.

Domaine les Escondudes comes courtesy of our long-time partner (and local star) Thierry Ferlay. He makes this dark, brooding, berry-laden beauty using premium fruit and flavor-enhancing galets roulés (round stones that absorb the sun's heat and gently release it to the vines throughout the night). The result is an elegantly structured wine with ripe, black fruit aromas and flavors. Full and rounded on the palate, it is the perfect match for casseroles, roasted meats, game and full-flavored cheeses.
