Domaine de Valori Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2019

The southern Rhône is home to some of France’s richest reds, but the finest of all come from the storied village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. And there’s never been a better time to explore these wines. As Decanter critic Matt Walls reports, the 2019 vintage in Châteauneuf is “exceptional in its own way, combining elegance with power, and excelling over neighboring appellations.”

We couldn’t think of anyone better to give you a taste than our longtime friends, the Meffre family, who have crafted world-class wines in the southern Rhône for nearly a century. They acquired Domaine de Valori (itself founded in 1935) in 1967. Today, third-generation François Meffre oversees the estate’s eight hectares of vines. At an average of 35 years old, these mature plants have low yields, but the fruit they do produce offers wonderfully concentrated flavors.

Look forward to ripe blackberry, cassis and raspberry aromas, supported by wild herb and spice notes. The rich, powerful palate delivers warming black fruit and tobacco flavors, plus structured tannins and a long, velvety finish. An impressive match for roasted lamb or hearty vegetarian casseroles.
