Domaine Brenac Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Didier Brenac’s family have been making wine for decades in France’s sun-drenched south (their estate was founded by Didier’s grandfather in 1932). We tasted this little beauty on a recent trip and came away very impressed. If you’re quick to order, we think you’ll be just as wowed (your guests, too).

Didier is known as a bit of a perfectionist (both in the vineyards and the winery), and his skill is on full display here. Made with specially selected parcels of grapes from Didier’s favorite vineyard, his new Cabernet Sauvignon release is deep and rich. It’s definitely a wine you’ll want to decant 30-60 minutes before drinking – the oxygen exposure will unleash heady black currant, blackberry, and blueberry flavor, plus loads of toasty spice (this is a wine that really cries out for a big pot of traditional boeuf bourguignon).

Travel writer Rick Steves has called the Languedoc France’s “hidden corner.” It may be obscure to tourists, but for wine lovers, this is France’s “New World” a treasure trove of rich-fruited, ancient-vine wines with prices that are giving more famous regions a run for their money.
