Dinastía Manzanos Oak Aged Rioja 2017 2017

The Manzanos family have been making wine in Rioja since 1890 – and today, fifth-generation brothers Victor and David are taking their name (and quality) to greater-than-ever heights.

In celebration of the proud legacy left behind by their late father, Victor and David asked their award-winning winemaker, Borja Ripa, to seek out the finest parcels of Tempranillo from their oldest (and best) vineyards, located in the sleepy villages of Azagra, San Adrián, and Adeanueva de Ebro.

Row by row (and in some cases, vine by vine) Borja hand-selected clusters of grapes that he deemed worthy of his new project. The fruit was so pristine, he also grabbed a bit of old-vine Graciano and Garnacha and gave only a tiny portion of the wine time in oak barrels – just enough to impart a subtle, spicy note. Letting the pure fruit character shine through was his top priority, making it, as he says, “a true taste of our best vineyards, worthy of the Manzanos dynasty.”

Dinastía’s concentration and depth really stand out (the intense color in the glass is your first clue that you’re in for something great). Fragrant plum, strawberry, and dark berries greet your nose, followed by waves of ripe, red- and black-fruit on the palate. The finish is long, smooth as silk, and framed by delicate anise notes. A fantastic partner for lamb, cured meats, robust vegetarian cuisine, cheeses, and more.
